GA4 Ultimate Stack

Check every GA4 property against your settings standard

Save your agreed GA4 settings as a baseline, compare every property against it instead of against each other, and keep one baseline per region or client type on Premium.

Compare to a standard, not the majority

“Differs from most” only tells you what the majority does. If five of eight brands kept GA4's 2-month retention default, the majority is 2 months, and the three properties set up correctly are the ones that get highlighted.

A baseline is your agreed standard, saved once. Compare against it and the matrix marks the properties that differ from what you decided, whatever the majority does.

The majority kept the default. The baseline shows the real fix list.

Two panels: the most common retention value is GA4's 2-month default, while the baseline of 14 months marks five properties as differing.

Save a baseline from a property

Load a property that is set up the way you want every brand to be. Choose Save from this property…, give it a name such as Our standard GA4 settings, and choose which settings to include.

Include only what should be the same everywhere. Leave out time zone, currency and industry, which differ by brand for good reasons. A stream setting such as enhanced measurement is taken from the property's first web stream.

A baseline keeps setting values only, never a property or account. The same standard works for every client and every Google account you use. You can rename it later, or drop settings from it.

Your standard on one side, every loaded property checked against it on the other.

Two panels: a baseline saved from Brand A with four settings, and three loaded properties, one matching and two that differ from the baseline.

Compare every property against it

Pick the baseline in the comparison menu. Every loaded property is now checked against it instead of against each other: cells read Matches baseline or Differs from the baseline.

Switch the view to Only those that differ from the baseline and the matrix shrinks to the cells that break your standard. Choose No baseline to go back to comparing properties with each other.

Four cells across seven brands break the standard. Everything else matches.

A table filtered to the cells that differ from the baseline, with each property's value next to the baseline value.

What a first baseline should hold

Start with the settings that make brand reports comparable and keep personal data out of them:

  • The reporting attribution model and both lookback windows.
  • Event and user data retention, and whether user data resets on new activity.
  • Google signals, so cross-device reporting is the same choice everywhere.
  • Enhanced measurement, especially form interactions, which is off by default.
  • Email and query parameter redaction on every web stream.
A sensible first baseline: attribution, retention, signals, enhanced measurement, redaction.

A checklist of six settings worth standardising first.

One baseline or many

A single standard rarely fits a whole portfolio. Analytics 360 properties can keep data for longer, regions make different privacy choices, and lead-generation clients may credit conversions differently from retailers.

Free keeps one baseline; delete it to save a different one. Premium keeps up to 50, so each kind of property can have its own standard.

One standard per kind of property: standard, 360, regional, lead-gen.

From comparison to change

When the matrix shows what differs, Match the baseline stages a change for every loaded property that differs from it. Only settings that can be changed here are staged, even if the baseline also holds read-only values. Nothing is written until you preview and confirm: see Change settings in one reviewed batch.

Questions about baselines

?

Does a baseline store anything about my clients?

No. It holds setting values and a name. No property, account or brand is saved in it.

?

Can a baseline include read-only settings?

Yes. Values such as reporting identity are compared too. When you stage from the baseline, only the settings that can be changed here are staged.

?

Can I edit a baseline?

Yes. Rename it or drop settings from it. To change a value, save a new baseline from a property that has the value you want.
